Due to strong demand for the guided tour on International Women's Day in March, Rüdesheim Tourist AG is offering another date on May 18 for the tour under the motto "Strong Women in the Rheingau - Hildegard of Bingen." The tour lasts about 1.5 hours and starts at 1:30 PM. Afterwards, there will be coffee and cake in the cozy monastery café (included in the price).
Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) is one of the most significant and fascinating figures of the Middle Ages. She was a visionary, scientist, healer, politician, composer, theologian, and founded two monasteries (Rupertsberg on the Nahe and in Rüdesheim-Eibingen). Many of her writings, especially her knowledge of natural healing, have endured to this day.
Join tour guide Jacqueline Palzer on an exploration around the Abbey of St. Hildegard, which was built from 1900 to 1904. After the tour, we will conclude the afternoon with coffee and cake in the café of the Abbey of St. Hildegard.
The tour in German starts at 1:30 PM and lasts 1.5 - 2 hours plus a coffee break.
The meeting point for the tour is in the small park in front of the monastery church. A small circular path will be taken, with stops at many stations. For the short walking distance, please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. The tour takes place in all weather conditions. After the tour, there will be coffee and cake in the monastery café (included in the price of 22 Euros).
The Monastery Café
The tour ends at around 3:30 PM with coffee and cake in the monastery café. The monastery café has been an inclusion company of the Abbey St. Hildegard since 2020. End around 4:30 PM.
Before or after the tour, a visit to the monastery shop, which is open until 5:00 PM, is worthwhile.
Registration can also be done directly at the Tourist Info in Rüdesheim: touristinfo@ruedesheim.de or easily book through the webshop and print a ticket immediately.
