Through the sloping terrain of the Höllenberg, the route climbs steadily, with the steep vineyards and the Middle Rhine Valley always in view. At Eckersteinkopf, the trail leads through the orchards of the Heim fruit farm towards the Taunus forests. At the “Wiesen am Klosterwald”, the landscape alternates between mixed forests and lush meadows. A hollow path leads through a small wood to the Robert König vineyard before descending into the enchanted valley of the Aulhauser stream. The trail returns to the foot of the Höllenberg at the Assmannshausen domain of the Kloster Eberbach winery.

Unser Tipp

Various types of fruit have been grown in the meadows around the Heim fruit farm since the 1950s. In 2011, an in-house distillery was added, where the local fruit is processed into fine distillates. The cider tavern is open at weekends. www.obsthof-heim.de

The vineyards around Assmannshausen are more than just a Pinot Noir domain. The Höllenberg is also a diverse herb garden where more than 30 edible wild plants grow. The Assmannshausen herbalists conjure up home-made delicacies from wild fennel, ground ivy and other herbs and invite you to join them on herb hikes and strolling menus.
