St. Hildegard Benedictine Abbey

Rüdesheim am Rhein

St. Hildegard’s Benedictine Abbey above Rüdesheim am Rhein was built at the beginning of the last century. It dates directly back to the time of Saint Hildegard von Bingen, who founded the precursor to Eibingen Monastery, which was first inhabited in 1165 and dissolved in 1803. To this day, Benedictine nuns live in St Hildegard according to the order’s more than 1,400-year-old rules dating back to Saint Benedict – love forGod, humanity, the joy of faith and a realistic, pragmatic view of fellow human beings. A large monastery shop, vineyard, spelt-based produce sales, gold workshop, ceramics studio and restoration workshop for ecclesiastical archives provide the economic basis of this world famous monastery. The abbey also provides accommodation,
where people can seek tranquillity and contemplation for a limited time behind the walls of St Hildegard, or attend courses and seminars run by the Benedictine nuns.
